What advice would you give to someone starting out?

The three A’s to success are availability, affability, and ability in that order.  Believe in your capabilities and your hard work and training.  Learn from the mistakes of your mentors and even others whom you don’t know.  Rome wasn’t built in a day.  Perseverance to excellence is the sure path to success.  It is not easy to take criticism and the ability to learn from it lets one achieve the unimaginable.  SERVE THE PATIENT, NOT YOURSELF.

What are you or your company doing to give back to the community?

Malcolm Gladwell in his book Outliers demonstrates how the ZIP code of one’s birth is more predictive of success, health, and life span that IQ, college grades or genetics.  No one makes it through life on his own merits, even if assistance is not obvious.  As a result, everyone has a debt to pay and a reason to pay back to society.  I run a not for profit organization for underprivileged patients diagnosed with prostate cancer.  Besides, I have been a frequent donor to the local community temple where I regularly do community service and donate funds for the maintenance and upgrades of the religious organization and its mission.  As a part of my commitment of paying back to the world of urology, I train young urologists in the intricate art of robotic surgery and then let them go to spread the knowledge and help patients at large.

Do you have any unique habits that contribute to your success?

I don’t have any unique habits, but I do have some habits which have helped me reach where I am today.  The three A’s were crucial in my success.  Trying to excel in every newly learned skill despite pitfalls is also very important to me.  Enormous fraternization with all others around me gives me courage and the strength to surge ahead.  Strong family ties are very important to me and my family is extremely supportive of my work and mission in life.
